Foundation of Thuy Dung Coffee Business
In 1994, Thuy Dung coffee business was established by young pioneers who were among the first to move from North to South Vietnam for business opportunities in the 1980s. We began purchasing fresh coffee cherries from local farming households, initially only able to buy a few bags at a time, gradually accumulating volume.
This was during the very early development stage of Vietnam's coffee industry, when business operations relied heavily on experience and sensory evaluation to assess coffee quality. Each trip, each harvest season, each farm was an opportunity to learn new knowledge about soil conditions, climate, and their impact on coffee quality. We developed expertise in evaluating coffee potential through hands-on field assessment - examining the coffee cherries, soil quality, and terroir characteristics.

Our first vehicle
We bought the first Cub motorbike in the commune. With that little 50cc Cub, we expanded our coffee purchasing to farmers in more remote areas.

Farm Purchase Business Model Transition
From 1998 to 1999, the "farm sale, harvest sale" movement among farmers in Lam Dong and surrounding areas began to flourish. Farmers would cultivate coffee trees, then when approaching harvest time, they would sell their entire farm or harvest to traders.
When purchasing farms, traders would visit the actual farms, conduct surveys, and determine pricing for each farm. From this point, Thuy Dung transitioned to coffee processing and hired workers for operations.
The business model of this period was very different from today. Profit and loss calculations, potential profitability assessments were based heavily on experience. Each farm survey required hands-on sensory evaluation - touching and examining fresh coffee cherries, assessing soil quality, and understanding the climate impact of each region.
This was a learning period where each trip, each season, each farm provided new insights into measuring and understanding soil conditions, climate effects on harvest, and determining profitability for each transaction and shipment.

First 5-Ton Truck Acquisition
In 2001, we acquired our first 5-ton truck with license plate 4427 - the first truck in the entire town. However, our capital was still insufficient at that time, so we had to diversify into additional business segments such as fresh tea trading to accumulate capital.
Although we had the truck, we didn't yet have sufficient volume to transport processed coffee beans or enough capital to fully transition to the coffee bean trading business. These were the years when we had to build capital to eventually reach the coffee bean business level.
This truck helped us expand our operational scope, serving trade and goods transportation for local people in the region, while simultaneously preparing for the future transition to coffee bean trading business.

Transition to Coffee Bean Sourcing
From 2005 to 2008, Phước Sơn had not yet been formally established. However, during this period, sufficient capital had been accumulated - enough to transition to a new business model: purchasing coffee beans for commercial trading with other small-scale buyers.
This marked a crucial transition from purchasing fresh coffee cherries to trading in processed coffee beans. The company began building a broader commercial network, working with diverse partners and customers.
The transition to coffee bean trading allowed the company to access larger markets and prepare for future development stages. This period established the foundation for the comprehensive coffee processing and export business that would emerge later.
The experience gained during this phase - understanding market dynamics, quality requirements, and customer needs - proved invaluable for the company's evolution into a major coffee exporter.

Factory construction
We built a large-scale factory and warehouse with high capacity in Gia Lâm, Lâm Hà, Lâm Đồng.

Outstanding businesswoman of Lam Dong

Phước Sơn Ltd. Formation and Nestlé Partnership
In 2012, when there was a significant need for practical work with major partners like Nestlé and FDI companies specializing in coffee import and export, Phước Sơn developed the need to transform into a limited liability company.
Phước Sơn Company is a tribute to the highland region. The highland region has blessed farmers and businesses with prosperity, enabling them to bring value to the world and bring foreign currency to Vietnam for national development.
Phước Sơn officially became a strategic partner of Nestlé in the Nescafe Plan program. Since the company's establishment, we have continuously improved internally to operate at international standards and always follow our core values: TRUST - HUMANITY - DEDICATION.
The development process since becoming a limited liability company has been continuous, benefiting from working with leading national and international coffee companies. These partnerships taught us professional working procedures and helped Phước Sơn develop into a leading coffee export and processing company in Lam Dong.

Expansion into Roasted Coffee Segment
Since 2016, recognizing the demand for pure coffee in the domestic market, Phước Sơn expanded into the roasted coffee sector. This marked an important transition from export-focused operations to serving the domestic market.
Phước Sơn's pure coffee product line achieved the title of Outstanding Agricultural Product of Lam Dong Province, affirming quality and reputation in the market.
The expansion into roasted coffee helped Phước Sơn diversify products, directly reach Vietnamese consumers, and build a Vietnamese coffee brand identity.
Phước Sơn's roasted coffee products are manufactured according to strict processes, preserving the distinctive flavor characteristics of Lam Dong highland coffee. This domestic expansion demonstrated the company's ability to excel in both international export markets and local consumer preferences.

OCOP 3-Star Certification from Lam Dong Province
In 2020, "Phước Sơn Traditional Coffee" product officially achieved OCOP 3-star certification from Lam Dong Province. This represents official recognition of the quality and value of Phước Sơn's traditional coffee products.
The OCOP (One Commune One Product) program is a national initiative aimed at developing high-quality distinctive local products that showcase regional characteristics and heritage.
Achieving OCOP 3-star certification demonstrates that Phước Sơn has succeeded in preserving and developing the traditional coffee flavors of Lam Dong region while meeting strict quality standards.
Phước Sơn's traditional coffee products embody the rich regional identity, expressed through traditional roasting processes and the distinctive flavor profile of Lam Dong highland coffee. This recognition validates our commitment to maintaining authentic Vietnamese coffee traditions while ensuring modern quality standards.

ISO 22000:2018 Certification Achievement
In 2018, Phước Sơn officially achieved ISO 22000:2018 certification - the international standard for food safety management systems. This represents a significant milestone affirming the company's commitment to quality and food safety.
Achieving ISO 22000:2018 certification demonstrates that Phước Sơn's entire coffee production, processing, and packaging processes meet the strictest international food safety standards.
This certification not only enhances international customer confidence but also enables Phước Sơn to access demanding markets such as Europe and Japan - regions that require the highest quality standards.
This achievement is also part of Phước Sơn's 30-year sustainable development journey, demonstrating continuous commitment to quality improvement and customer satisfaction. The certification validates our systematic approach to ensuring every cup of coffee meets international safety and quality standards.

GPS Traceability Pioneer and EUDR Compliance
By 2024, Phước Sơn pioneered the implementation of GPS positioning systems for each cultivation area in the coffee supply chain, meeting EUDR (European Union Deforestation Regulation) anti-deforestation standards of the European Union.
The EUDR regulation requires companies to prove that their products are not associated with deforestation, demanding precise traceability capabilities down to individual farm plots.
Phước Sơn has invested in GPS technology to monitor and accurately identify the location of each coffee growing area in the supply network, ensuring complete transparency throughout the production process.
This represents a pioneering step in Vietnam's coffee industry, demonstrating Phước Sơn's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility after 30 years of formation and development. The GPS traceability system positions Phước Sơn at the forefront of sustainable coffee sourcing, meeting the most stringent international environmental standards.
